It’s a nice, sunny day in California, and you’re on you way to your friend’s birthday party. The road is quite busy and you’re jamming to your favorite song. until you get a text from your friend. You pick up your phone and take a glance at it, but when you look back up, you see a truck coming right towards you. No one would see it coming, and that’s why I’m going to talk about the dangers of texting and driving. Nowadays, no one understands the risky dangers that are at hand while texting and driving. More than 3,000 teens die each year in crashes caused by texting while driving, he minimal amount of time that you are taken away from your phone is five seconds and text messages makes a crash up to 23x more likely. Dialing is 2.8x risk. talking and/or listening is 1.3x risk, and reaching for a device 1.4x risk. 13% of drivers from IS-20 involved in car wrecks admitted to texting or talking on their mobile devices at the time of the crash, more than 50 percent of teens admit to texting while driving, but for adults, they feel quite confident while texting and driving: 77% of adults are very or somewhat self assured that they can safely text while driving and 55% of adult drivers claim it’s easy to text while they drive. asked my dad if he texts and drives and he said, “Texting and driving requires focus and 1 don’t have that, But it also takes time and when you’re driving, you shouldn’t have time to text. You should always keep your eyes on the road. To answer your question, no l haven’t texted and drove before, nor will I.” Even though that is some bad information, there are laws that prevent that Ten states plus D.C. prohibit all drivers from using handheld cell phones, 32 states and D.C. prohibit novice drivers from cell phone use, 39 states plus D.C. prohibit all drivers from text messages. I asked my mom about this and she said, “Texting and driving should be banned in all states because the number of teens that die per year is unbelievable. When l’m driving, put my phone on drive mode, and that prevents me from looking at my phone and texting people.” As texting and driving is illegal, people keep doing it because they think it will make them more “focused” and “skilled”, but really, it will just cause an accident that could result in death or horrible injuries. You’re driving to your friend’s house, and you get a text from her. You hear the alert, but you keep your eyes on the road. Don’t text and drive. it can wait.
